About Us

The Australian Maths Trust is honoured to host the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad

About us

The Australian Maths Trust (AMT) creates challenges for students to practise solving, so they’ll be prepared to face a future full of real-world problems. Problems that will require ingenuity, creativity, and determination to solve.

The AMT is passionate about empowering students to become better problem solvers in school, so they can be creative solution-finders in the future.

The organisation runs mathematical and algorithmic competitions and programs for Australian and international students, including the longest-running and prestigious competition, the Australian Mathematics Competition.

Building a nation of creative problem solvers

The Australian Maths Trust runs a range of unique competitions and programs to inspire, extend, and recognise mathematical understanding for primary and secondary students. Each year we run six unique competition events and two long form in-school programs for hundreds of thousands primary and secondary students in Australia and around the world.

Our flagship competition, the Australian Mathematics Competition, has been delivered in Australian and international schools since 1978, engaging generations of young people in the joy of maths and problem solving.

Our Computational and Algorithmic Thinking competition focuses on the development of problem-solving skills through algorithmic thinking.

We also run longer, more challenging competitions for talented students including the Australian Informatics Olympiad and the Australian Mathematical Olympiad. Maths Challenge and Maths Enrichment are problem-solving programs delivered by teachers over a period of weeks to engage and extend students’ mathematical understanding.

Welcome to IMO 2025 in Australia

IMO brings the brightest young minds from around the world and represents the culmination of many years of mathematical endeavour and hundreds of attempts at solving problems.

The AMT, on behalf of the Australian mathematics community, is excited and honoured to host the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia in 2025.

The Sunshine Coast is sunshine by name and sunny by nature. With more than 100km of coastline where the rainforest meets the sea, the Sunshine Coast is the selected location. Enjoy your beautiful surroundings while you’re here.

You’ll find yourself in beautiful surroundings and might meet some of our native wildlife – which you may find in your backyard while you’re here (just remember to keep a safe distance as they can be protective of their space).
