Volunteer
The Australian community will come together to celebrate this international event in 2025 – and we need your help!
IMO 2025 will require event volunteers across the following roles:
- Team Guides
- Exam Invigilators
- General Volunteers
All volunteers must have a valid QLD Blue Card or be prepared to obtain one prior to IMO 2025.
Roles
We are privately sourcing members of the Problem Selection Committee and Coordinators for this event – but there are many roles at an international event – and most of the time you don’t need a background in mathematics! We’re after passionate, service-minded people to help us run a fantastic event that we can all be proud of.
Team Guides
The main responsibilities of a Team Guide are to:
- Provide advice and transmitting information to participants and their supervisor
- Help with language translation
- Work with the wellbeing team to resolve any issues
Guides will be expected to undertake pre-event training, attend daily briefings and maintain excellent communication with supervisors and their allocated team. Team Guides may be local and transit daily, although a small number may also be brought in from outside the Sunshine Coast.
Team Guides are often university students with foreign language skills; however, this is not necessary for the role.
This role will require commitment to:
- Online training (up to 2 hrs) in June 2025
- Onsite induction at Novotel Sunshine Coast on Friday 11 July 2025 and Saturday 12 July 2025 from 9am-5pm
- Attendance at Novotel Sunshine Coast daily (variable hours) from Monday 14 July 2025 to Saturday 19 July 2025
Invigilators
The main responsibilities of an Invigilator are to:
- Provide operational assistance to ensure students are registered and seated in the correct location in the Exam Centre
- Supervise the exam and maintain the integrity of the IMO
- Render assistance where required (transferring student questions to the scanning officers, supplying additional paper, accompanying students requiring the bathroom)
- Scan exam papers into the official IMO 2025 data management system
This role will require a commitment to attend and participate in:
- Online training (up to 2 hrs) in June 2025
- Onsite induction at Novotel Sunshine Coast on Monday 14 July 2025 from 11am-5pm
- Exam Invigilation on Tuesday 15 July 2025 and Wednesday 16 July 2025 from 7am-3pm
Invigilators are often academics, school teachers or students. A key requirement of this role is a commitment to the integrity of and upholding the IMO rules.
General Event Volunteers
Not quite sure how you’d like to be involved, but sure that you want to be? Perhaps a role as a generalist is the right one for you!
General Event Volunteers are required over many areas at IMO 2025. Whether it’s helping prepare the attendee swag bags, supporting IT and jury requirements onsite, assisting with registration on Arrivals Day, manning the helpdesk in the foyer, shuffling students in the direction of the exam, helping with logistics around excursions, or any one of a thousand other vital roles – there’s something here for everyone!
This is a flexible role that may suit individuals who are not available for the entire period of IMO 2025. Or maybe you are available the whole time, but you just love new and exciting challenges!
Please note that whilst flexible, we will require you to advise when you are available to assist and in what capacity. This will be confirmed in early 2025.
